Ravensridge by Jennifer Hale
There was something forbidding about the barren sweep of cliff face and the dark mouth of the cave seemed threatening. I could hear the rush of the underground river inside while still twenty feet away.
I had brought a flashlight, but there was more light in the cave than I had expected. Then the fish came, not just two or three, but a dozen or more—blind sick-white things that revolted me. But this was something that I had to do, though now that I was here, I was anxious to leave. I looked down at that rushing, hissing water . . . and heard a scream explode in my ears. Then I was flung violently outward, and the next instant I was thrashing in the icy water .
